IT-for-Green: Next Generation CEMIS for Environmental, Energy and Resource Management

IT-for-Green aims at increasing the environmental friendliness of companies and their processes by means of ICT. In this context, CEMIS are to be regarded essential for supporting the sustainability integration. Conventional CEMIS are not sufficient to achieve this objective, for they mostly serve the purpose of ensuring legal compliance with relevant environmental laws and regulations, mainly in order to avoid financial sanctions from state authorities. A new generation of more strategic CEMIS will be able to support the company’s decision makers.

On the one hand, the project focusses on expanding and improving the European research and transfer network for environmental management information systems (ertemis-network), to build-up a cutting-edge community. On the other hand, we are going to develop a next generation CEMIS. The system will be based on three building blocks. These modules correspond to the life-cycle of products from input (measuring energy efficiency of the ICT used) to transformation (logistics and sustainable product development) to output (corporate communication and sustainability reports).

The core team, under the direction of Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jorge Marx Gómez, comprises the University of Oldenburg, Osnabrück University, University of Göttingen, the University of Lüneburg as associated partner and the industry partners CEWE Stiftung & Co. KGaA, Hellmann Worldwide Logistics GmbH & Co. KG, erecon AG, Nordwest-Informationssysteme GmbH & Co. KG and the municipality of Spiekeroog. The network and transfer management is done by ecco GmbH. The extended team is made up of more industrial and scientific partners (currently 30 members). The project is funded by the European regional development fund.
